코로나 바이러스는 무엇?

이번 코로나 바이러스 영문 표기에는 novel coronavirus라고 적혀 있습니다.

다른 질병과 마찬가지로 면역성이 낮은 노인 연령층과 어린 아이들에게 위험한 바이러스이고, 주목할 점은 당뇨병과 고혈압을 앓는 환자에게 더 위험하다는거죠.

Covid-19 증상?

대표적인 증세가 인후통, 기침과 숨가쁨이고 열을 동반합니다.

나이 드신 노인층과 당뇨병과 고혈압의 지병을 가진 사람들이 폐렴으로 전이되는 현상이 발견되고 있다고 합니다.

크루즈배에서 감염된 미국 캘리포니아에 거주하는 60대후반의 칼 골드맨 (Carl Goldman)은 수 년 전 기관지염을 앓은 적이 있었는데 그 기관지염을 앓았을 때가 더 심했다고 말했습니다.

그는 코로나바이러스 확진을 받아서 집에서 쉬었지만 오한도 몸살끼도 없었으며, 호흡도 정상이고 콧물도 없었다고 말했어요. 단지 가슴이 조여오는 느낌과 기침현상이 전부라고 말했죠.

증상의 경중 정도는 환자의 나이와 개인적 면역체제에 달려있습니다.

예방책?

전염병 전문가들은 가장 중요한 것은 침착함(calm)이라고 말했습니다.

손을 깨끗이 씻는 일, 재채기 시 코와 입을 가릴 것, 물을 많이 마실 것을 권장하죠.

미국질병통제예방센터(CDC)는 화장실 사용시, 식사 전, 코를 풀거나 재채기를 하고 나서 비누로 20초동안 손을 깨끗이 씻을 것을 권하구요.

건강한 일반인의 경우 의료시설에서 일을 하는 사람이 아니라면 굳이 사용할 필요가 없다고 말했습니다.

일반적인 수술용 마스크는 환자에게서 나온 비말이 공기 중에 들어 가지 못하도록 막지만, 이미 공기 중에 있는 것이 들어가는 것을 막기에 충분하지 않다는 거죠.

병원균으로부터의 완치(Pathogen cured)는 바이러스가 더 이상 환자의 몸에 존재하지 않기 때문에 타인에게 전염시키지 않는 것을 의미하죠.

신종코로나바이러스를 처리할 항바이러스 치료제가 없기 때문에 대부분의 환자는 독감과 마찬가지로 바이러스와 싸우는 면역 체계에 의해 스스로 치료됩니다.

면역성이 약한 환자의 경우, 신종코로나바이러스 감염이 훨씬 더 치명적이겠지요.
