[경자년 의미] 쥐의 해 다복하세요!(ENG 2020 Rat Year!)

 

올해 2020년은 경자년 쥐의 해입니다. 한자어 경자년(庚子年)의 경(庚)은 흰 색 자(子)는 쥐를 의미하여 올해는 흰 쥐의 해죠. 

 띠란 “각 사람들의 심장에 숨어 있는 동물”이라고도 일컫는데, 이는 토템사회에서 인간이 동물을 숭배하던 미신에서 나왔죠. 12띠는 한 개의 시간 개념으로부터 시작하여 인간이 타고 넘어가야 할 파장이 12를 주기로 하고 있음을 뜻하고, 한국 중국 일본이 12개의 띠를 가지고 있어요

옥황상제가 지상의 동물들을 불러 모았는데 연회에 참석한 순서대로 지위를 주겠다고 했어요. 우직한 소가 앞만 보고 달려 1등을 하고 있었는데 영리한 쥐가 소의 등에 타고 있다고 먼저 뛰어내려 첫번째 지위를 차지했다는 재미난 설화가 전해 내려오고 있습니다. 그래서 12지 중 쥐띠가 첫번째인거지요.

쥐는 불결하고 징그러운 우리에게는 혐오의 대상이죠. 만화영화 속의 미키마우스와 ‘톰과 제리’의 제리는 물론 귀엽지만 저는 개인적으로 쥐를 참 많이 무서워합니다. 

오늘은 경자년 쥐띠 해를 맞이하여 쥐가 인간에게 어떤 기여를 하는 동물인지 알아보도록 하겠습니다.

어쩌면 쥐는 인간에게 가장 큰 기여를 하는 동물인지도 모릅니다. 2002년 ‘네이처’에 따르면 쥐는 80%가 사람 유전자와 같고 19%는 매우 닮았고 완전히 다른 것은 단지 1%밖에 되지 않는다고 하네요. 이런 이유로 쥐는 인간의 질병 연구 실험용으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있습니다. 인간의 DNA 연구를 위해 무수한 쥐가 실험과정에서 그 생명을 잃고 있으니 정말 미안한 생각이 드는군요

미국 듀크대 사울 셴버그(Saul Schanberg)박사 연구팀은 새끼 쥐가 태어나면 어미 쥐가 새끼를 핥고 쓰다듬는데 많은 시간을 보내는 것에 주목했죠. 연구진은 어미 쥐와 떨어져서 지내게 된 새끼 쥐에게 작은 붓에 물을 묻혀 계속 자극했더니 새끼 쥐의 성장 호르몬이 높아지고 튼튼하게 자라난다는 것을 알아냈어요. 

티파니 필드박사(Dr. Tiffany Field)는 듀크대 연구결과를 듣고 조산아들에게 손으로 마사지를 해 주어 생존률과 성장률을 높이게 되죠. 진짜 엄마손이 약손인가 봅니다.

이 뿐만이 아니라 미 항공우주국(NASA)은 최근 국제우주정거장(ISS)에서 쥐 20마리를 두고 한 실험 결과와 동영상을 공개했습니다. 쥐들은 우주정거장 내의 ‘저중력’ 상태에서 빠르게 적응했다고 하네요.

쥐들이 우주여행에서 정상 신체반응을 보이고 무중력이라는 새로운 환경에 빠르게 적응하는 만큼, 인간 또한 우주 공간에서 얼마나 적응력을 발휘할 수 있을 것인가 현재 연구 중입니다. 두안 언쿠이 중국과학원 교수는 "우주에서의 쥐 수정란 연구로 인류가 달이나 화성 등 우주에서 대를 이어 번성할 가능성이 커졌다"고 말했습니다. ‘톰과 제리’에서 그들이 우주에 가게 되는 그 황당한 애니메이션이 실제가 된 셈이죠.

인간처럼 사랑이란 접촉으로 성장하고, 인간보다 더 적응력이 뛰어난 쥐를 보면서 다산과 다복을 상징하는 쥐띠 해, 올해 어떤 새해설계를 하셨나요? 흰 쥐는 우두머리 쥐를 상징하며 사물을 꿰뚫어보는 지혜를 가진 힘세고 영특한 동물로 알려져 있습니다. 쥐는 위험을 감지하고 어려운 상황에서도 생존하는 강인함을 가지고 있어요 2020년 경자년, 한 해 지혜롭고 풍성한 한 해 되시길 바랍니다.

This year, 2020 is the year of the White Mouse. In Chinese characters, character Kyung(庚)means white and character Ja(子) means a mouse.

 The band is also called the "hidden animal in the heart of each person," which stems from the superstition that humans worshiped animals in totem society. People say that rats are are filthy and disgusting. Mickey Mouse and Jerry from ‘Tom and Jerry’ in the cartoons are, of course, cute, but I'm afraid of rats a lot.

Today, we will look at how the rat contributes to humans this year, the year of White Mouse.

 

Perhaps a mouse is the animal that contributes the most to humans. According to ‘Nature’ in 2002, 80% of mice are human genes, 19% are very similar, and only 1% are completely different. For this reason, rats are the most used for human disease research experiments. I'm very sorry that countless mice are losing their lives in the process of studying human DNA.

 

Dr. Saul Schanberg, Duke University, USA, noted that when a baby mouse is born, the mother mouse spends a lot of time licking and petting the baby. The researchers found that the baby mouse that had been separated from the mother mouse continued to be touched with water in a small brush and found that the growth hormones increased, and the baby mouse grew strong.

Dr. Tiffany Field after checking the Duke's research results found out that massages for premature infants by hand improve survival and growth rate.

There is a saying in Korea that mother’s hand is a medication. 

 

In addition, NASA recently unveiled the results and videos of 20 rats at the International Space Station (ISS). The rats are said to adapt quickly in the "low gravity" state of the space station.

As rats show normal body reactions in space travel and quickly adapt to the new environment of weightlessness, we are currently studying how adaptable humans can be in space. "The study of mouse fertilized eggs in space has made it more probable that humanity will thrive in space, such as the moon and Mars," said Professor Duan Uncui, at Chinese Academy of Sciences. In “Tom and Jerry,” the ridiculous animation they go to space is a reality these days.
