2011년 트리뷴 잡지의 “고전미의 예술” 이란 기사 첫 문장에 이런 말이 나와요.

영원한 아름다움의 예술은 우아함이다. 크리스챤 디올(Christian Dior)은 classic beauty의 기준을 시대가 흘러도 변하지 않는 의상 스타일이라고 했어요.

그 기준은 바로 단순함(Simplicity), 차림새(grooming),감각(taste)이라고 했구요.

오늘은 할리우드 황금기[Golden Age Of Hollywood]라고 불리는 1930-50년대 주로 활동했던 Classic beauty 여배우 10명을 선정했습니다.

어디까지나 제 선택 기준이구요. 기대해주세요.

10위 베티 데이비스

8위 헤디 라마르

오스트리아 출신으로 할리우드에서 활동한 여배우 헤디 라마르는 순종적이며 얼굴만 예쁜 배우에 머무르지 않았어요.

그는 적극적인 여성 이미지를 보여준 배우였죠.

“쇼 비즈니스가 만든 가장 화려한 스타, 영화 역사상 가장 매력적인 스타, 세상에서 가장 아름다운 여인.” 

헤디 라마르의 활동 기간 그에게 붙여진 수식어들이에요.

그는 단순히 외모만 뛰어난 것이 아니라, 아카데미 여우주연상을 두 번이나 받았고, 골든 글로브 4회, 영국 아카데미 2회 수상자이기도 합니다.

소설 ‘바람과 함께 사라지다’가 영화로 제작되기 전 ‘누가 스칼렛 오하라 역으로 적격인가’라는 주제로 독자들을 대상으로 무기명 투표가 진행되었었는데, 비비안 리는 단지 1%의 표밖에 받지 못했다고 합니다.

정말 이상하군요.

저는 이 역이 정말 비비안 리한테 아주 적역이라고 생각하고 있었거든요.

비비안리는 역경 속에서도 꿋꿋이 자신의 운명을 개척해 나가는 강인한 여성상의 대명사 스칼렛 오하라역에 완전히 빙의되어 연기했죠.

저는 비비안 리의 영화 중에서 ‘애수’란 영화도 참 좋아합니다. 1940년 작품인데 6.25 전쟁 당시 임시 수도였던 부산에서 처음으로 개봉해 수많은 관객들을 울렸다고 합니다. ‘올드 랭 사인(auld lang syne)’ 음악과 함께 오래 전 흑백영화의 감동이 아름답고 슬픈 사랑을 하는 마이라역의 비비안 리의 청순가련한 모습은 오래도록 오래도록 기억되어 있어요.

뉴욕 타임즈(New York Times)는 “비비안 리만큼 아름다운 배우에게는 연기력은 필요 없다, 비비안 리만큼 연기력이 훌륭한 배우에게는 아름다운 모습은 굳이 필요하지 않다." 라고 얘기했습니다.

Today, I've selected 10 classic beauty actresses who were mostly active in the 1930s and 50s called the Golden Age Of Hollywood.

This is my selection criteria.  Please look forward to it.

10. Betty Davis

Betty Davis is an American actress who has received a lot of popularity from female audiences in the 1930s and 40s for her affectionate and intelligent acting.

She is an actress who simultaneously expressed the fascinating charm as a star and the ordinary female figure who stood alone to survive in a world dominated by men.

She is also famous for  the song "Bette Davis Eyes," which was received by Kim Carnes in 1981 and won the Grammy Award.

There's something like this in the song lyrics.

Hedy Lamarr has the greatest success in  film history, starring Victor Macher in the movie Samson and Delilah.

I think she is a perfect cast for Delilah.

Many celebrities followed, but not Grace Kelly. It's not that elegant.

Hermes' luxury bags is named after her.

As such, Grace Kelly was an actress who exudes her own unique elegant sophistication, noble and luxury like a white swan.

4. Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was an actress, singer, model and became a sex symbol.

It is known as a representative blonde beauty, but in fact, her original hair color was dark brown.

But blondes look really much better.

She was named for the concept of a blonde idiot, but she was said to be smart.

She became popular by starring in the early film 'Niagara'.

She  shows a sensual and provocative charm in 'The gentleman likes blondes' 'The River That Doesn't Return' and'Going Out in 7 Years'.

Pop artist, Andy Warhol was interested in celebrities, beauty, and he was obsessed with the death that these things would soon disappear.

Marilyn Monroe was the one who matched those three.

3. Elizabeth Taylor

Born in England, Elizabeth Taylor was a British and American actress

She was a legendary actress who was considered a beauty of the century.

Her movies were a big hit for every movie she starred in, and she was a top star who gained fame and popularity for over 30 years.

She was more often called the nickname 'Liz'.

It is said that she was well known for  a pretty appearance since her childhood.

The New York Times even described her as'a personification of beauty'.

When the close-up scene of Elizabeth Taylor in the black-and-white movie' A Place in the Sun'' was seen, it is said that many people in the theater were exclaimed about her beauty.

I personally think that  Liz Taylor from this movie is the most pretty.

Elizabeth Taylor in'The Giant' couldn't hide her extraordinary beauty even at a Texas farmhouse.

She is not only outstanding in appearance, she has also received two Academy Awards for Acting, and is also a recipient of four Golden Globes and two British Academy Awards.
