(ENG Bong Joon Ho’s 10 stings in "Parasite")

'Parasite' won the Academy Award for the first time in 101 years of Korean film history, He won an Oscar for his non-English film, breaking through the 92-year-old Academy Glass Ceiling.

Bong Joon-ho's “parasites” have surpassed Korean film history and made a mark in world film history.

Today, I'm going to talk about the ten symbolisms of 'parasites', which can be said to be the finished works of Bong Tail (Bong Joon Ho + Detail).

Let's start with a simple quiz.

Who is the main character of the judge you heard now? I'll let you know the last video.

In the movie 'Parasite', various symbolisms appear that imply an important meaning for painting the whole main story.

1.semi-basement,

First, the semi-basement, with subtle opening music that seems to suggest something that starts from the first scene, is intense.

'Socks' hanging high in the room, toilet bowls also positioned high, Trying to catch free WiFi reveals the harsh environment of Kitaek's home.

It's a good description of the poor people living in the semibasement where they can see people pissing through windows.

I can see that he is the head of the unemployed in Chungsook's attitude of  to his  husband.

The house is flooded and the toilet is flowing back, showing the poor living environment under the semibasement.

2. Park Dong-ik's house

Park Dong-ik's house is not a old rich family but a representative of an IT company.

His house shows a neat living room and garden rather than old expensive paintings or antiques

Emerging upper class modern minimalist architecture, showing urbane sophistication.

I can see their bluff buying a mansion designed by famous architect Nam Gung-hyeon.

However, the possibility of hierarchical upward moving is also silently revealed in the scene of the chairman's ascension in the vertical entrance structure.

The structure of semibasement is flat, but his house is a vertical structure with strong hierarchical contrast.

 3. landscape stone

Minhyuk presents landscape stone to Kiwoo's family. When Kitaek's family sees the stone bringing good fortune and good luck for his family, Kitaek likes to be timely and Kiwoo says that it is symbolic.

Decorative stone is a hobby for those who are rich, honestly, as Chung said, it's worse than the actual food for the family.

For Kiwoo, however, he wants to rely on it as a lucky charm to bring wealth and passing college exam.

Kiwoo regards and pampers it as a symbol for rank advancement.

He is encouraged by the stone and dreams of dating and marrying Dahye.

Kiwoo becomes bold carrying the stone.

On Dasong's birthday, he asks Dahye if he is qualified with Dahye's guests.

Because he wants to get rid of those who obstruct the rank ladder.

For Kiwoo, the stone was an amulet that gave him courage and momentum.

But he was deadly wounded because of the stone.

After leaving the hospital, he put the stone in the water even though he  was hugging even at the gym that had been evacuated by the swelling flood.

And he pledged, e'll make money without luck, a lot.

The real conclusion is that the privilege of the capitalist era is money.

The stone is the nature of its appearance, not actual landscape.

The lucky stone was a vain dream that can't be relied on.

4. Plan

His father, Kitaek, throws a meaningful line to Ki-woo in the early stage of the movie.

"Son, you have a plan."

He shows the image of a helpless father who is already acclimatized to a firmly classified reality.

"Do you know what plan never fails? No plan. If you plan, it doesn't necessarily go according to plan. Look here too. Who would have planned for this many people to gather in the gym today? But look now You're sleeping on the floor together, so are we. "

After all, to those who don't have, life doesn't go as planned. Dreams, visions, and life plans don't go as planned.

like a Taiwan Castella store.

At the beginning of the movie, Chungsook kicks her husband and asks him how their phone and Wi-Fi are disconnected.

"What is your plan?"

And photographs of the silver medals of Chung Sook's national athletics competition, which are swept away, suggest that they were people who once had dreams and plans.

It points out that they were not incompetent and helpless from the start.

5. Stairs

The highlight of this movie is a staircase that shows the class society that is already stuck.

From ascending the hill that Kiwoo visited for the first time in his house, the scene of Mr.Park's Family's coming up to the front door to down to the basement cell ,

Who does have

Who does not have,

Who has no more, it shows the human desire to rise above each other in the ranks of these three groups.

The best scene of 'parasite' is Kitaek, Kiwoo, Kijung's going back down home scene on a heavy rainy day.

What welcomes them back to their original place is their shabby semibasement  below the sea.

Does the partial rise within the hierarchy pinch the fixed, which is difficult to move fluidly or forever?

"Parasites" were struggling with stairs. "

"I think it's the first time I've made so many stairs while I'm in film art," said Lee Hae-jun, art director.

The film makes good use of the stairs as a symbol of status and hierarchy.

Bong Joon-ho's excellent 'class sensitivity' is clearly shown.

6. Indian

Europeans arriving in the Americas were trying to occupy rather than symbiotic with Native American Indians.

The scenes of various classes not being symbiotic and destroyed, such as taking away their land, are the sword-breaking events of Dasong's birthday feast.

It's an implicit representation of the breakdown between classes as the Indians live in sanctuaries.

When Yeongyo prepares her son's birthday party, She  describes as configuring the table position in the form of Hak-ik-jin of General Han Sun-do of Yi Sun-shin.

Do you have an indication of the upcoming blood seas?

Sooner or later, the invaders in the basement are coming.

7. Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat started out as a graffiti painter of the subway, recognized for his genius, and earned the nickname "Black Picasso," but died at the age of 28 with drug abuse.

Yeongyo says that his son's painting resembles Basquiat. Yeongyo thinks his son is a genius.

Basquiat met and worked with Andy Warhol as an artistic comrade.

Basquiat wanders away after Andy Warhol's death as his only friend.

Dasong who is impulsive was the only one compliant with Kijung like the relationship between Basquiat and Andy Warhol, the relationship between Dasong and Gijeong was not continued.

It's a question mark that wonders what will happen to Dasong after the death of Kijung.

8. Film Score

When I watched Parasite three times, I realized how appropriate Jung Jae-il's music selection was.

The most impressive piece of music is the melodic opening of something that seems to be slowly crawling out with the first six bells.

The music that began with making Chapaguri was the sensational music that showed the urgency of the basement with the kitchen knife.

When the host family goes camping, Kitaek's family and Moonkwang and Geunsae are alert in the living room.

Gianni Morandi's “Kneeling Before You” (In ginocchio da te) plays music.

It is ironic that Kanchone songs of love in the surrogate situation of survival after knowing each other's secrets.

Like a cockroach they leave out of the house, the dreary music that flows down the stairs of the rainy road foreshadows the unfolding of the film.

Director George Lucas said, "Half the film is music."

In a book called "Aesthetics of Lyrics", "The bell is a symbolic being that walks human life between life and death, action and misery, war and peace, chaos and order."

Bells at First Opening Music and you can guess Kiwoo's life well from the lyrics of the ending song “1 cup of soju” without cookie video.

Music also has a lot of symbolism that seems to be designed from the beginning to the ending.

9. Smell

The freedom of the spacious living room enjoyed by those living in the semibasement and in the basement does not last long,

The reason they don't fit in the space is because of their smell. The most meaningful word in this movie is the smell.

The everyday life such as the smell of the semibasement, the smell of the subway causes somebody a break with a terrible smell.

The failure to go up to another rank symbolizes the class adherence that cannot be hidden by trying to hide it because of the smell. The rage of Kitaek is intensifying, motivating him to the  killings and stimulating our sense of smell throughout the film.

“What smell does it smell to me?”

10. Morse code

The tool of communication between the lowest layer and the highest layer is the Morse code. The only people who interpret it are Kiwoo and Dasong, who were Scouts.

Even though Dasong is the highest class, he is the only relationship that Moonkwang keeps texting after leaving his house. He had a good relationship with Kijung. Also he tries to interpret the morse code sent in the basement, although it is not complete.

It is a  metaphor that future generation is possible to communicate with various people, not disconnection between classes.

Is it a hopeful setting in the age of gloomy breaks?

Perhaps it is our expectation for future generations, such as the age of division and conflict.

Oh, the first judge's voice was CEO Kwak Shin-ae.

When peple first saw a parasite movie, I saw a lot of people asking, "What is the movie all about?"

If we watch a movie, there is a movie with an exclamation point (!) And a movie with a question mark (?).

Bong Joon-ho's 'parasite' film is a question mark film.

'Parasite' implies an important meaning and paints the whole picture.

The set of points prepares the flow of story.

There were ten kinds of Bong Joon-ho's stings.
