[정직Honesty] 나는 영화 속 알라딘? 기생충?(ENG Am I Aladdin or Parasite?)

 “당신의 소원이 이루어진다“ 란 글이 보이시나요?

실제 미국의 알라딘 영화 포스터에는 이런 문구는 없습니다. 미국에서는 “꿈은 이루어진다”라고 하죠 무슨 차이일까요? 꿈은 성취지향적 방향성이라면, 소원은 결핍 충족 욕구죠.

영화 기생충의 포스터 문구입니다. “행복은 나눌수록 커지잖아요.” 성취보다 충족을 추구하는 우리 사회를 엿볼 수 있는 대목입니다.

이제부터 두 영화에서 보이는 문화 차이를 비교해 보겠습니다.

첫번째: 가난의 상징과 구원자들

알라딘은 원숭이 '아부'와 살아가는 외로운 고아 소년입니다. 그는 가난하지만 어둡지 않고 밝은 모습을 보이고 있지요.

하지만 기생충에서는 반지하의 모습에서 시작합니다. 우리에게 가난의 상징은 어둡고 낮은 곳인 셈이죠. 그리고 보여지는 것은 양말, 역시 우리 신체의 가장 낮은 곳을 나타내내요.

가난한 고아 알라딘은 술탄이 되고 싶은 자파의 속삭임에 램프를 찾으러 무시무시한 동굴안으로 들어갑니다.

알라딘은 물질적 유혹과 위협을 무릅쓰고 램프를 찾아냅니다. 마침내 지니와 함께 바깥세상으로 나오게 되죠.

알라딘에게 가난을 탈출시킬 구원투수는 바로 요술램프 속에 있는 지니입니다.

이번 지니 역의 윌 스미스는 영화 알라딘의 하드 캐리입니다.

영화 기생충에서 기우네 가족에게도 구원의 천사가 나타납니다.

바로 이 사람이죠 특별 출연한 기우의 친구 민혁 역의 박서준입니다.

그런데 알라딘의 지니가 현실세계에는 없죠. 그래서 그들은 문서위조를 합니다. 아버지 기택은 그런 아들, 딸을 자랑스럽게 여깁니다.. 온가족이 사기집단 어벤져스같지 않습니까? 현재 우리나라 사회의 가짜 스펙과 거짓의 현주소를 보여주고 있어서 마음이 씁쓸합니다.

인생을 살다 보면 어려운 처지에서 나를 도와줄 그 누군가가 즉 구원자가 나타나곤 합니다. 중요한 것은 고마운 은인을 악연이 아닌 좋은 인연으로 만드는 일입니다.

두번째: 신분상승의 욕구

여자들에게만 신데렐라 신드롬이 있는게 아니죠. 남자들에게는 바보온달 신드롬이라고 해야 할까요? 이를 사회학적으로 신분상승이동 욕구라고 합니다.

알라딘은 공주와 결혼하기 위해 왕자가 되기를 그 첫번째 소원으로 빌게 됩니다. 지니는 알라딘을 완벽하게 변신시킵니다. 늠름한 지니의 모습, 화려해진 알라딘 왕자님 정말 근사해지지 않았습니까?

반면 기생충의 기우도 역시 부잣집 딸인 다혜와 결혼을 통한 신분상승을 꿈꾸게 됩니다. 그의 가족들도 함께 꿈꾸는 듯 보이네요 떡 줄 사람은 생각도 안 하는데 김칫국부터 마시는 격이죠.

여기서 주목해야 할 점은 알라딘은 자신보다 더 어려운 사람을 공감하고 도와주는 반면에 기생충에서 나오는 기택 식구들은 자신들보다 더 어려운 상황에 있는 지하실의 근세와 도우미 아주머니 문광의 처지를 철저히 외면합니다.

톨스토이의 단편집 중 촛불이 생각납니다. 지주가 농노 출신 관리자를 두면 오히려 농민들을 더 괴롭히고 권력을 행사한다는 겁니다.

인간에게는 자신의 신분상승을 추구하는 욕구가 있는 반면, 다른 사람이 자신의 위치로 오르는 것에 대한 경계 심리가 있는가 봅니다.

세번째: 특권층에 대한 증오

술탄은 자파에게 자신의 신분을 기억하라고 면박을 줍니다. 자파는 자신이 처한 위치를 고려하라는 술탄의 말에 앙심을 품습니다. 자파는 능력의 한계에 분노합니다.

영화 기생충에서 기택이 박사장에게 증오심을 느끼게 된 단초가 된 것은 바로 냄새입니다. 냄새는 기택에게 환경적 수치심입니다. 아버지의 열등감은 가족들 앞에서 굴욕감으로 변합니다.

네번째: 신뢰의 관계

알라딘은 자신이 왕자가 되기보다 지니와의 약속을 지키고 그를 자유롭게 해 줍니다. 지니는 얼마나 기뻤을까요? 그리고 얼마나 알라딘을 고마워했을까요? 

반면 기생충의 기우는 친구인 민혁과의 약속을 지키지 않고 부탁을 철저히 외면한 셈이죠. 우정을 배신하고 부잣집 딸 다혜와의 미래를 꿈꾸니까요.

알라딘과 지니는 영원히 서로의 은인이 되겠지만, 기우와 민혁은 서로 원수가 되는 악연을 만든 셈이죠.

다섯번째. 진실의 가치

알라딘은 자신이 잘못되었다는 것을 깨닫고 진실을 말합니다. 결국 거짓으로 사랑을 얻을 수도 왕자가 될 수도 없다고 결심하는 거지요. 알라딘은 자신의 행복보다 쟈스민의 행복을 구하는 그 진심으로 공주의 마음을 얻습니다.

영화 기생충의 기택은 박사장의 남겨진 가족에게 사과하지 않죠. 아버지의 도피를 아는 기우 역시 진실을 말하지 않습니다. 기우는 다혜를 사랑했을까요? 아니면 이용한 것인가요? 기우의 인생 목적은 돈을 벌어 박사장의 집을 사는 것입니다.

제가 이 영화에서 가장 불편했던 부분은 기택의 가족 모두 진실되지 않고, 사과하지 않으며, 용서를 구하지 않는다는 점입니다. 가난이 죄는 아니지만, 그들의 범죄는 정당화될 수 없으니까요.

정직한 삶이라면 신분 상승이 가능한 미국 사회를 암시하는 장면입니다. 알라딘이 위로 상승하고 있는 모습이 보이고 있네요 저 역시 덩달아 신이 납니다.

영화 기생충의 명장면입니다. 끝없는 계단을 내려가며 신분 하락을 암시하는 대목이 인상적이지 않습니까? 진실된 꿈을 노래하는 알라딘, 물질적 소원만을 품고 사는 기우, 모든 것이 사회 탓일까요? 피자박스조차 제대로 접지 못했던 기우네 가족들은 박사장네 집에 들어간 이후 엄청나게 유능해집니다 기우네 가족은 그 전에는 왜 그렇게 열심히 살지 않았을까요?

알라딘은 18세, 기우는 재수생이니 20세전후의 또래입니다 진실과 신뢰의 알라딘이 되느냐? 아니면 거짓과 위선의 기우가 되느냐는 바로 얼마나 세상에 대한 긍정심을 가지고 살아가느냐에 달려있습니다. 세상이 불평등하다고 느낄 그 순간순간마다 “그럼에도 불구하고＂라고 한번 외쳐보세요. 사실 어느 시대를 불문하고 그리 완벽하게 살기 쉬웠던 세상은 없습니다.

자, 오늘의 메시지입니다.

“누구나 왕자가 될 수는 없지만, 내 자신을 기생충의 운명으로는 만들지 않을 수 있으니까요”

But in the real American Aladdin movie poster, it's hard to find the phrase "Your wish comes true. Perhaps it contains our wishes. 

In the United States, they use the expression “dreams come true”. If a dream is an active and fulfilling direction, then a wish is a strong desire to pursue what is passive and lacking.

 “Happiness grows as you share it.”

It is a phrase that gives a glimpse of the present state of our society. in pursuit of collective selfishness rather than personal happiness and prosperity

Let me analyze the cultural gaps you may have missed between S.Korea and the US in two movies

First, The symbol of poverty and the saviors

Aladdin is a lonely orphan boy who grew up without a parent, who lives with the monkey Abu . He is poor but not dark but bright.

But in the movie titled “Parasites”, the scene starts with the image of underground room. For us poverty is dark and low. And what is shown is the socks, which is also the lowest point of our body.

Aladdin was recruited by Jafar to retrieve the magical lamp from the Cave of Wonders. 

Aladdin finds the lamp in spite of material temptation and threat. Finally, he comes to the outside world with Genie.

It is the genie in the magic lamp who will help Aladdin escape poverty. Will Smith is the hard carry of the movie Aladdin.

The angel of salvation also appears in their families from “Parasites”.

This is Park Seo-joon, a special starring Kiwoo’s friend Minhyuk.

But Aladdin's Genie does not exist in the real world. So they forge documents. In addition, the father is proud of his son and daughter. I feel sad because it shows the fake specifications of our society and the current status of false impersonation these days.

In our lives, we may find someone who can help us in difficult situations. The important thing is to make that coincidence a good fortune, not a bad luck that will ruin my life.

Secondly, Upward social mobility desire

Women have Cinderella syndrome. The same is true for men. This is called sociologically upward social mobility.

Aladdin wishes to become a prince to marry the princess as his first wish. And Genie transforms Aladdin perfectly. Aladdin really isn't cool?

Kiwoo also dreams of getting married with Da Hye, a wealthy daughter. His family seems to be dreaming together They count their chickens before they have hatched.

But it should be noted that Aladdin empathizes and helps people who are more difficult than he is.

The Kiwoo family members neglect Kunse of the basement and the situation of Moonkwang, a house helper who is in a more difficult situation than themselves.

The harassment scene of “Parasite” toward Moonkwang reminds me of “Candle” in Tolstoy's short story. According to Tolstoy, no steward was as bad as those in the ranks of the aristocracy, such as the sudden appearance of loach as a farmer.

I think that humans have a desire to increase their status while they are alert to the rise of others.

Thirdly, Hate against the privileged

The Sultan baffles Jafa to remember his identity. Jafa is angered by the Sultan's words to consider his position. Jaffa is angry at the limits of his abilities.

It's the smell that makes Kitack hate his boss. The word of smell was shame and contempt for his poor background. Kitack feels humiliated at his incompetence revealed in front of his family.

Fourthly, Trustworthy relationships

Aladdin keeps his promises and frees Genie rather than becoming a prince. How happy was Genie!  And how much did he appreciate Aladdin?

Kiwoo dreams of marrying his rich daughter, Dahye, betraying his friend, Minhyuk.

Aladdin and Genie will be each other's benefactors forever, but Kiwoo and Minhyuk will be enemies. Minhyuk will feel deeply betrayed.

Fifthly, the value of integrity

Aladdin realizes that he is wrong and tells the truth. In the end, he decides that he can't be loved falsely and become a prince.

Aladdin earns the heart of the princess sincerely seeking the happiness of Jasmine rather than his own.

It is impressive that Aladdin's scene, which is described as socially upliftable. He is rising up.

It's the most impressive scene in the movie. Don't you think the passage that goes down the endless stairs suggests a bottom in status? Aladdin who sings dreams and hopes, Kiwoo who lives with only vague wishes without dreams or hopes. Kiwoo's family, who couldn't even fold up a pizza box very well, becomes incredibly competent after entering Mr. Park’s house. I wonder why the family did not live so hard before that.

Aladdin is an 18-year-old boy, Kiwoo, who is also a peer youth. It depends on how positive you are about the world. Every moment you feel the world is unequal, “Say, in spite of”. In fact, no world has ever been so easy to live perfectly.
